NeXUS seeks a Post Doctoral Scholarr to complete the assembly of the XAS beamline and end-station, and to perform initial commissioning measurements, including assembly and commissioning of the liquid sheet end-station for time resolved XAS in liquids. As part of this work, the Post Doctoral Scholar will be expected to contribute to the NeXUS team environment, and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students working on the facility. The Post Doctoral Scholar will be encouraged to publish aspects of the design and commissioning work in appropriate journals, and to engage with the emerging NeXUS user community and NSF oversight leaders.
Qualifications:
Required: Doctorate (Academic) with a Major in Chemistry or Physics with a specialization in time-resolved spectroscopy, x-ray and/or XUV optics, and/or high harmonic generation.
Desired: Experience in high vacuum surface science and/or liquid sheet generation is desirable.
The NSF National eXtreme Ultrafast Science (NeXUS) Facility at Ohio State University brings to the scientific community the ability to study how electrons move in molecules and materials at time scales as fast as attoseconds and length scales as small as angstroms. Based upon a recently developed laser technology that provides high repetition rate and high average power pulses that enable generation of ultrafast XUV and soft x-ray pulses fully synchronized with the drive laser, the NeXUS facility provides tailored photon characteristics to three special purpose end stations for time-resolved research in attosecond and femtosecond molecular dynamics, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The NeXUS team comprises faculty and staff in the Departments of Physics and Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. The College values diversity and offers a supportive, open, and inclusive community.
The pay range for this job profile is $48,000 - $60,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
