Required Education:

PhD in the field of microbial ecology, showing evidence of a strong and ambitious research-oriented profile and demonstration of research productivity

Preferred Experience:

• A strong background with large-scale genomic data (metagenomics and/or transcriptomics)
• Experience in viral ecology
• Experience with field work and water sampling
• Experience with motorized boats
• Experience with bioinformatics of large-scale metagenomic and transcriptomic datasets.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Driver’s license (to drive to locations to collect field samples).

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Job Responsibilities

50% Lab/Analysis

• Analysis of data pertaining to how early season nutrient loading magnitude and stoichiometry, and hydraulic residence time in lakes and reservoirs with varied surrounding land-use practices influences HABs, anoxia and microbial functioning.
• Involvement in assessing microbial seasonal dynamics using metagenomics and transcriptomics.
• Analyze the metagenomics and transcriptomics data using bioinformatics.

45% Fieldwork

• Field Sampling
• Water Sampling
• DNA/RNA extractions and integration with the field data to generate an ecosystem model for monomictic lakes.
• Bioinformatics analysis and integration with field data.

5%: Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.
