Organization Summary

The Simmons group has an established record of cutting-edge computational research in the dynamics and mechanics of nanocomposites. Recent group research in this area has been published in journals including Nature, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Macromolecules. The successful candidate will work with the PI and other team members to drive transformational new advances in the understanding of nanocomposite mechanical behavior. This postdoctoral associateship is supported in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy focused on understanding nanocomposite mechanical strength.

The Simmons group is located in the Department of Chemical, Biological, and Materials Engineering at the University of South Florida, in the fastest rising Chemical Engineering Department, College of Engineering, and University in the U.S. New and World Report Rankings. The department currently ranks as one of the top 15 largest Chemical Engineering programs in the country based on student enrollment, and it continues to undergo significant expansion of its faculty and graduate programs. USF is one of the 10 largest public universities in the United States and is in the top 5% of U.S. universities based on total research expenditures. 42% of USF students are African American, American Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, or multiracial. Position Summary

The Simmons Group at the University of South Florida is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. The successful candidate will employ molecular dynamics simulations to probe the nonlinear mechanics of elastomeric nanocomposites, with the goal of understanding the microscopic origins of nanocomposite toughness. The position is for 18 months, with the possibility of future extensions.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in molecular modeling or simulation is preferred.
