The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The NREL mission is to develop renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovation to address the nation’s energy and environmental goals. The Renewable Resources and Enabling Sciences Center has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher within the Synthetic Biology and Bioconversion Group.
The successful candidate will conduct metabolic analyses and pathway discovery via experimental and computational tools in non-model fungi for lignin conversion as part of a project funded by the Department of Energy - Biological Environmental Research (DOE-BER).
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Plan, execute, and troubleshoot research
- Work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists
- Have strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
- Be able to work safely and independently
- Author peer-reviewed publications
Must have graduated with a Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemical engineering, or a related field within the last three years
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Additional Required Qualifications
- Have demonstrated experience in microbial cultivations
- Have demonstrated experience in systems biology (-omics)
- Excellent organization and record keeping
- Ability to deliver high-quality results with attention to detail
- Experience in programming (R, Phyton, etc)
- Experience working with fungi
- Experience in metabolic engineering
Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Annual Salary Range: $69,400 - $114,500
Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
