IAB provides and supports platforms for research in programs from ecology and ecosystems to molecular biology and genetics, including field stations, and core laboratories for geographic information systems and DNA sequencing.

The Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, administered by IAB, began in 1950 and is part of a nationwide cooperative program to promote research and graduate student training in the ecology and management of fish, wildlife and their habitats.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:
Knowledge of modeling ecological systems. Demonstrated evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills and publishing in the peer-reviewed literature.

PREFERRED:
Skills in modeling freshwater species distributions, habitat relationships, and other system dynamics. Interest in ecological disturbance processes and effects on hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, food webs, and aquatic ecosystems. Interest in interdisciplinary and/or climate-related research. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive laboratory culture.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED: Research experience in modeling ecological systems.

PREFERRED: Substantial experience modeling and analyzing complex datasets in R and/or related applications. Experience working with and integrating large ecological datasets. Experience with spatial modeling, ArcGIS or other geographic information system (GIS) software. Experience with project development and grant writing.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in fisheries and aquatic science, ecology, natural resources, or a related discipline (already received or all requirements fulfilled and awaiting graduation).
