A Post Doctoral Scholar position is available for a highly motivated individual to conduct microbiomics research in the Gut Microbiology laboratory of Dr. Zhongtang Yu in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. The successful candidate will conduct rumen/gut microbiomics research to further our understanding of the microbiological processes underpinning feed utilization in ruminants. The successful candidate will work on research projects funded by USDA and the private sectors. Specific duties include the planning, execution, and publication of high-quality research; assist with the preparation of extramural grant applications; and assist with the supervision of junior laboratory personnel (undergraduate and graduate students). Additional responsibilities include participation in meetings for research planning and evaluation, professional interactions with collaborating partners including industry partners, other faculty, staff, and students; and presenting research findings to the scientific community and the public when appropriate. 


The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Protozoology, Animal Sciences, or a related field and demonstrated technical expertise and research experience in metataxonomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and/or bioinformatics. They shall also have excellent project management, analytical, and data analysis skill; ability and willingness to supervise graduate students to guide their research and professional development; excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation); and ability to generate new ideas, novel and unique concepts, models, and solutions. Experience with the cultivation and single-cell genomics of ciliate protozoa is highly desirable.


Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $52,000 annually.
