Job Title:
Post Doctoral Fellow

Department:
Medicine | Neurological Surgery

The Townsend Lab has an immediate opening for a basic/translational postdoctoral fellow with experience and interest in investigating adult brain plasticity and stem cells. This funded project will investigate hypothalamic tanycytes, adult stem cells marked by telomerase reverse transcriptase, and how adult neural plasticity and remodeling impacts the regulation of energy balance (appetite, neuroendocrine function, sympathetic outflow to adipose, etc.).  This project is partially funded by NSF, and will also partially be funded by NIH, spanning the basic to translational spectrum using both mouse and human brain samples.  Experience with mouse husbandry and transgenic strains, stereotaxic surgery, brain anatomy, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, and molecular biology techniques are strongly preferred.  Candidates should be highly motivated, independent, headed for an independent research career, passionate about team/collaborative science, mentoring in the lab, honesty and integrity, fostering a dynamic and functional lab environment, and maintaining an organized, rigorous and well-documented research program.  The Townsend Lab believes strongly in supportive mentoring, career advancement, professional development, and collegiality.

Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
