Overview:

Truth currently serves a culturally diverse population of 6th to 11th grade students in Washington, DC, and next year will serve 6th to 12th grade students.

Position:

The PowerSchool and Systems Specialist will be responsible for managing the school’s PowerSchool system, with a primary focus on PowerSchedule, student data management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements set forth by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and the D.C. Public Charter School Board (PCSB). The role involves daily system administration, data entry and management, troubleshooting, training staff, and reporting for both internal and state compliance needs.

The PowerSchool and Systems Specialist, like all other staff, should be fully invested in Truth’s two Design Principles:

  • Students need to be prepared for life, not just for school.
  • Each student’s identity, voice, perspectives, and choices matter.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain PowerSchool student information system (SIS), ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and security.
  • Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and daily operation of PowerSchedule to ensure that all course scheduling functions run efficiently.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry and updates related to student enrollment, attendance, grades, schedules, and transcripts.
  • Collaborate with administrators and faculty to support scheduling needs, including course offerings, student placements, and special programs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all data-related regulations as outlined by OSSE and PCSB, including but not limited to enrollment, attendance, and reporting requirements.
  • Generate and submit all required state and district reports in accordance with OSSE and PCSB timelines, including data verification, attendance reporting, and student demographics.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and stay up to date on regulatory requirements impacting data management and reporting.
  • Analyze data trends and discrepancies to support decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PowerSchool system issues, including course schedule errors, student information discrepancies, and report generation errors.
  • Provide ongoing support to faculty and staff on system-related questions and concerns.
  • Train school staff (administrators, teachers, and clerical staff) on the use of PowerSchool, with a focus on PowerSchedule, attendance tracking, grade entry, and report generation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for PowerSchool-related inquiries and issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation and user guides to support staff in using PowerSchool effectively.
  • Work closely with academic and administrative departments to ensure smooth operation of scheduling, data management, and reporting processes.
  • Communicate regularly with OSSE and PCSB representatives regarding compliance updates and required actions.
  • Participate in meetings with leadership and staff to discuss data-driven decisions, school performance, and areas of concern.
  • Assist in other administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to PowerSchool and data management best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in PowerSchool system administration, with specific experience in PowerSchedule.
  • Experience working with student data management systems, school compliance, and reporting regulations (preferably with OSSE and/or PCSB).
  • Previous experience in K-12 education or educational data management strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in PowerSchool SIS, PowerSchedule, and PowerTeacher Gradebook.
  • Familiarity with state reporting systems, specifically OSSE and PCSB requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in data entry, analysis, and management.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel or similar data analysis tools to generate reports.
  • Basic knowledge of data privacy and security regulations (FERPA, DCPS, etc.).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
