Job Summary
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), performs the following duties: Set up, perform, and analyze high resolution simulations of developing cumulus fields over different areas, across the world. Compare the simulations with observations, including radar, and generate a better understanding of the physics of convection based on those simulations. Consults scientific literature and discusses with PI and collaborators in order to design and execute experiments that address important questions in the field. Actively participates in the scientific discussion forums within the research group and elsewhere, such as Journal Clubs and research group updates. Presents research findings at national and international conferences. Participates in the training process of undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills. Teaching opportunities may be available.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in. a discipline related to meteorology, physics, mathematics, engineering, or environmental science.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in atmospheric convection, including computational modeling, processing of observational data, and machine learning. Programming experience in Python or a similar language for data science, and in C++ or similar for model development. Proven ability to work independently and as a team, including mentoring undergraduate students. Productive history of generating peer-reviewed publications and of presenting results at conferences. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
