The University of Virginia seeks qualified candidates for an Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Research Associate in Digital Health & Symptom Science. Unique in scope and primed for interdisciplinary scholarship, this Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is designed for an emerging scholar committed to a research career at the intersection of symptom science, digital health, and data science.  The post-doc will join an existing Principal Investigator in the School of Nursing and a team of interdisciplinary collaborators to support the work of a funded NIH R01 grant testing the use of mobile sensor technology to characterize cancer pain in the home setting from the perspective of both patients and family caregivers.  The candidate should have an interest in patient-facing cancer research.  Experience in mixed methods research, data visualization, and mobile sensing/mobile health is desirable, and we are particularly interested in scholars with dual backgrounds in healthcare and engineering/data science.

The candidate will have the opportunity for robust partnerships among UVA’s Schools of Nursing, Medicine, and Engineering, and will receive guidance in developing and conducting research, and close mentoring in grant writing, manuscript preparation and publication.  Though part of a large interdisciplinary research team, the post-doc research associate must be able to work independently as well. The position will include the opportunity to co-direct students also working on the project, and so will provide experience in supervising research that would be valuable preparation for a faculty position.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in a discipline relevant to symptom science/digital health by their start date
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to a career in research and teaching at the college or university level.

Salary will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications.

This is a one year appointment that is renewable upon the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
