Requirements

Environmental Compliance Lead, Environmental Health & Safety – Georgetown University

The Environmental Programs Information Technology Lead is responsible for the planning, organization, and coordination of environmental planning activities. This includes University functions impacting compliance toward District and federal laws, regulations, standards, and permits applicable to protection of the environment and human health.  This includes DOEE and EPA regulations. Serves as technical expert for Title V Air Permits and Reports, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and Underground Storage Tanks (UST) management. Assists with Hazardous Waste Management activities and other EH&S safety projects as needed. Responsible for maintaining environmental components within the data management program to include surveys and audits, training records, inventories, etc. Reporting to the Senior Environmental and Occupational Safety Manager, the Environmental Compliance Lead has duties that include but are not limited to:

Environmental Documentation

  • Completes required local and federal regulatory reports, regulatory notifications, and self-disclosures as needed on behalf of Georgetown.
  • Oversees the university’s Title V Air Permit implementation requirements including, submitting required regulatory reports, implementing compliance practices, and advising the university community on compliance requirements for air emissions sources.
  • Provides additional technical and program assistance for related Environmental management disciplines including SPCC, UST, RCRA, or other programs.
  • Monitors and manage minor and major modifications to existing permits and new permits for new emissions sources.
  • Ensures required aspects of SPCC are maintained such as emergency spill response.
  • Coordinates location, inventory, and deployment of emergency trailer.
  • Assists with the development of site-specific environmental management programs, documentation, technical specifications and audit programs for University clients.

Environmental Surveys, Inspection and Communication

  • Participates in conducting surveys and inspections of employee/student exposure to hazardous substances and conditions.
  • Ensures effective and clear communications with University employees and students; with local and federal government agencies and others necessary to help resolve environmental or safety related programs.

Environmental Database Management

  • Works with database software to store, organize and manage data as it pertains to environmental compliance such as EPA reports and regulatory permits.
  • Keeps database up to date.
  • Archives data and update as appropriate.
  • Updates other data as needed such as training records, surveys, inspections, etc.

Training Programs

  • Assists in the development, delivery and maintenance of training programs, records, and other documentation.
  • Participates in special projects (at request of Facilities Occupational Health and Safety Manager) requiring technical capabilities and unique analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or a related field
  • 6 years appropriate work experience in environmental compliance, engineering, and/or physical science
  • Knowledge and experience should include working knowledge of EPA environmental regulations such as The Clean Air Act, OSHA Regulations, conducting and creating safety training
  • Must be available for after-hours emergency response activities
  • Professional certification preferred
