What we want

The ADVANCE Office is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will help design and lead research projects related to faculty recruitment, retention and departmental climate, and assist with the implement of diversity, equity and inclusion initiative programs within the office of ADVANCE. We are seeking an individual who has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability, as well as a strong knowledge of issues in higher education. We are looking for an individual skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods, who has talent in designing attractive presentations, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Please note: This is a temporary appointment (estimated 1-year project) with annual continuation of employment contingent upon funding.

Salary: Minimum annual salary is $50,000.00.

Cover Letter, Resume/CV and Sample: A cover letter and resume/CV are strongly recommended. In addition, interested applicants are encouraged to include one or more of the following with their application: a writing sample, a presentation sample (i.e. PowerPoint slides, link to a podcast), or other sample of creative work (i.e. portfolio, link to a website).

Required Education:

  • Appropriate Doctoral Degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Independent research skills.

  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion issues in higher education.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral dissertation research focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in higher education.

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.

  • Experience with diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in higher education.

  • Publication record.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services.

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff, and people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong research, writing, and editing capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Research - Conducts research on programs and projects specific to ADVANCE. Evaluates and develops effectiveness of STRIDE (Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence) faculty search committee training workshops. Researches issues that affect faculty retention. Disseminates research and program/project data and results.

  • Program Design and Implementation - Develops and helps coordinate new ADVANCE programs. Develops website content. Coordinates meetings with committee members. Drafts program material and consultation strategy/format. Participates in program pilots.

  • Consultation - Provides consultation services to faculty and administrators related to ADVANCE programs. Provides program participants with feedback, advice and assistance related to programs.

  • Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned.
