Position Summary

The Hahn lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research spanning systems biology, protein engineering, optogenetics, biosensors, motility, and the cell biology of blood cells. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will develop novel methods to visualize and control protein function in living cells, then apply these methods for a systems-level analysis of cell behavior. They will focus on high resolution microscopy and image analysis and spearhead collaborations with microscope engineers for quantitative imaging. New techniques will initially be applied to better understanding and enhancing megakaryocyte production of platelets, adhesion receptor signaling, and the cytoskeletal dynamics of macrophages and related cells. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will mentor other researchers in the lab and carry out lab maintenance.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also engage, to the extent that it does not interfere with their primary duties, in an auxiliary project in collaboration with the School of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Education to help develop and apply statistical theories and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize numerical data and surveys to further professional development training and opportunities for graduate students in the life sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This work will include assisting in data collection, coding, survey analysis, data interpretation, and disseminating findings through manuscripts, publications, and infrequent travel to participate in meetings or conferences.
