Job Description Summary:

With its commitment to the study of human difference and diversity — in all of its manifestations — the GW Department of Anthropology prepares students through coursework and unique learning opportunities to be change-makers in a multicultural and ever-evolving world.

This position is for an NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scientist to participate in interdisciplinary research on a project titled “Alzheimer’s Disease Pathology in a Primate Model”. This research is based in the GW Laboratory for Evolutionary Neuroscience. The postdoc will conduct multi-disciplinary analyses of many types of data, including electron microscopy, brain histological data, MRI data, and behavioral data. The postdoc will also assist with writing reports and publications, and training students. The position reports to Prof. Chester Sherwood.

Duties:

  • Generate neuroanatomical data, and optimize related protocols.
  • Statistical analysis of data, including phenotypic data.
  • Write up results of experiments and present results to other researchers.
  • Develop and manage the project pipeline together with collaborators, and curate project samples.
  • Develop and test laboratory protocols.
  • Help oversee student research in the lab.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in anthropology, biology, neuroscience, genetics, or a related field, and expertise in neuroscience techniques, image analysis, bioinformatics, or neuroanatomical and molecular bench skills.
