Summary of Position

This individual will facilitate research activities of the Chair of Department of Biological Sciences.

Task 1: Maintain detailed records for research and organizes data related to DNA and RNA sequences and analyses. Conduct bioinformatics analyses.

Task 2: Prepare charts, figures, and data analyses. Contribute to detailed scientific reports . Conduct literature searches and background research.

Task 3: Assist with packing and moving lab to swing and/or permanent new space.

Task 4: Advise and supervise students and other lab technicians. Provide direction, assign tasks, and follow up on completion and coordination as needed.

Task 5: Ensure lab safety and chemical storage protocols are in place and. Follow all protocols and ensure compliance by students.

Task 6: Operation of laboratory and experimental equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, analytical balances, pipette pullers, microforge, milliQ water purification system (training provided). Maintains detailed records of controlled substances used in the laboratory.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences, Marine Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or other closely related field.

Work experience in the scientific and computational techniques appropriate for ecological genetics data collection and analysis or one year of post high school technical training directly related to scientific techniques required by the position.

Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work.

Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment, as necessary.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Ability to perform metagenomic analysis with genetic data sets.
Adept with Excel.
Adept with scripting and statistics.
Technical training in scientific techniques beyond minimum qualifications.
