Summary of Position

The Earth System Research Center is recruiting a postdoctoral associate to work with unpersonned aerial system spectral and lidar data to examine vegetation cover types and plant species that are associated with permafrost collapse in Sweden. The position is for one year. This project funded by NSF’s BII program is entitled “E M E R G E: Integrating Research and Training to Characterize EMergent Ecosystem Response to ChanGE.” The specific focus of this position will be on integrating remote sensing data with ecosystem models to better understand biogeochemical systems.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to be part of a well-established interdisciplinary research group and take part field collection at sites that will be up to 1.5 months in duration. We seek a candidate with an understanding of field-based experiments from Arctic ecosystems. We also seek a candidate that has experience with UAS flights and the ability to pursue a FAA UAV flying license. The researcher should plan to be involved with publication writing and development of grant proposals.

GISQGIS or ArcPro experience
UAS experience
• Remote Sensing Experience
• Statistical analytical background
• Use of Python, R and Google Earth Engine (javscript)
