The Arbegast Materials Processing and Joining (AMP) Laboratory at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. This is a regular, full-time benefitted position. The AMP Laboratory has a history of conducting both basic and applied research in the area of advanced materials processing and joining. AMP is home to a host of advanced processing equipment including friction stir welding, cold spray technology, and laser powder direct energy deposition. The successful candidate will be responsible for (i) designing and executing experimental research, (ii) advising student researchers, (iii) disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific conference presentations, and (iv) contributing to the identification and preparation of funding proposals.
A PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or closely related field is required. The applicant should have expertise in advanced materials characterization, advanced manufacturing (e.g., laser powder directed energy deposition or cold spray technology) of metallic materials, thin film coatings (e.g., PVD), tribology, and/or shape memory alloy processing and characterization.
