Job Description Summary:

Dr. Michele Ver Ploeg in the Departments of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and Director of the Food and Health Policy Institute (FHPI) at The George Washington University is recruiting a post-doctoral scientist with expertise in research on food security, food consumption and the food retail environment, and on food and nutrition assistance programs. The research focuses on how the food retail and policy environments impact food and nutrition outcomes. The post-doctoral scientist will be responsible for leading data analyses and supporting the development of new research projects focused on how consumers with different personal and neighborhood resources are differentially impacted by the food retail environment—focusing on characteristics like age and mobility; the race and ethnicity of each household relative to their neighborhoods, and cities and or those in the poorest food environments. The post doctoral scientist may also assist with a project on WIC participation and nutrition outcomes for toddlers and young children. The post-doctoral scientist will also work with the Director of the FHPI to develop events and policy briefs and communications, and help set strategic plans for the Institute. The successful candidate will contribute to FHPI research and strategic goals, support development of students and collaborators, and work to develop independent areas of research.

Responsibilities Include:
• Lead the development of manuscripts and presentations at scientific meetings based on secondary data analyses of large and complex cross-sectional and longitudinal data sets.
• Contribute to research grant proposals.
• Assist the Director in planning FHPI events and seminars and in developing new areas activities for the FHPI.
• Draft policy briefs and blogs for the FHPI.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in economics, nutrition sciences, public policy or public health related fields.
• Strong quantitative skills, including experience conducting analyses in SAS, Stata, R, or similar software packages.
• Demonstrated writing skills, especially as they relate to developing scientific manuscripts. Experience with grant writing is a plus.
