Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Health Behavior is one of seven departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina. Founded in 1943, the Department develops, and disseminates knowledge and interventions that promotes the health of individuals and communities. The Department’s 25 faculty members have backgrounds in behavioral science, health education, international health, social and cognitive psychology, medicine, medical sociology, and communications, and are united by their commitment to the disciplines of public health together with the social and behavioral sciences.

Position Summary
The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center – Cancer Health Disparities Program (CHDP) seeks applicants for the postdoctoral program. This program provides multidisciplinary training with exposure to a broad spectrum of ideas and mentored collaborative research is fundamental to the development of effective cancer research in areas relating to cancer health disparities. Through its specialized core curriculum and mentored research experience, the CHDP focuses on training that crosses and integrates different disciplines. The flexibility in both eligibility and training allows the CHDP to enhance diversity within the field and, at the same time, provide the understanding and language for unifying that diversity.

Clear expectations of CHDP include: completion of the core curriculum (as tailored to your needs); submission of a grant or development of a grant proposal/participation in a mock grant review, preferably within your two years of fellowship; and participation in fellowship activities. You and your mentor will develop an annual training plan. Drs. Smith and Tate will meet with you and your mentor regularly to review progress and update your plan. At your yearly individual Development Plan meeting, we will issue a brief evaluation of your progress. You should cite CHDP in all publications emanating from your work as a fellow and you must comply with the NIH Public Access Policy (https://publicaccess.nih.gov/)
