Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Animal Functional Genomics and Epigenetics group at the University of Maryland, College Park, now has a postdoctoral associate position available for an enthusiastic and driven scientist wishing to pursue research to pinpoint the causal regulatory elements and dynamic mechanisms in chicken development. The candidate will develop their abilities in performing integrative “omic” data analyses and in fostering gene transcription, gene regulation, and protein translation in a temporospatial manner. The position will require maintaining active research projects under the supervision of the PI, including experimentation, data analysis, troubleshooting, preparation for publication, and mentoring new trainees. In addition, the postdoc will perform various functions vital for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including ordering supplies, overseeing maintenance of equipment, organizing lab materials, providing support for animal experiments, and administrative support as needed.

Education:
  • A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics or Computational Biology, earned no earlier than 2019, is required. 

Experience:
A background in molecular biology, quantitative genetics, mathematical modeling, or statistical genomics is required. 

Only persons currently legally able to work in the US will be considered.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants who have earned their Ph.D. studying Quantitative Genetics or Molecular Genetics.

Physical Demands

This position requires the lifting and moving of moderately weighted goods (20-50 lbs., for example, Centrifuge Rotors) up to 25 feet, operating tissue culture cells or zebrafish tanks, and utilizing hazardous chemicals, radioisotopes, and compressed gases. While performing the duties within this job, the employee frequently is required to maneuver, handle, or feel objects, tools, or instrument controls. The position also requires prolonged periods of standing to include maneuvering obstacles which may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and accessing necessary tools and objects. Furthermore, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer.

To operate specific lab equipment, the employee must utilize devices and make observations from diverse angles of perception: adjusting exploratory and imaging devices as needed. Employees may work in conditions with fluctuating temperatures: including spaces up to 83 F for extended periods.
