Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Ph.D. Biochemist to join our research team focused on the study of filamentous cyanobacteria and their interactions with light and matter. The successful candidate will be involved in cultivating photosynthetic cyanobacteria, performing genetic engineering, and conducting detailed analysis using advanced microscopy techniques.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Cultivate and maintain various strains of filamentous cyanobacteria under controlled laboratory conditions.
  • Perform genetic engineering to introduce and manipulate specific genes in cyanobacteria, aiming to study their roles in photosynthesis and light-matter interactions.
  • Utilize advanced microscopy techniques, including fluorescence and electron microscopy, to analyze the structure, function, and behavior of cyanobacteria.
  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate the biophysical and biochemical mechanisms underlying cyanobacterial responses to light.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, and present findings in written reports and scientific publications.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and contribute to the development of new research projects and grant proposals.
  • Ensure all research activities comply with institutional safety and ethical guidelines.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field with a focus on photosynthetic microorganisms.
  • Proven experience in the cultivation and genetic engineering of cyanobacteria or similar photosynthetic organisms.
  • Proficiency in microscopy techniques, including sample preparation, imaging, and data analysis.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and genetic manipulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute independent research projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and software for genetic and protein analysis.
  • Familiarity with spectroscopic methods for studying photosynthetic processes.
  • Knowledge of cyanobacterial physiology and metabolic pathways.
