Qualifications:
Successful candidates must possess (by the position start date) a Ph.D. in fisheries science, ecology, limnology, or a related field. A demonstrated publication record, quantitative analysis skills, interest in actionable science, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are critical. Preferred qualifications include experience or interest in Bayesian or state-space models; data carpentry and open science skills and experience; a background in fisheries ecology and science, experience working as part of multi-disciplinary research teams; and experience working with natural resource agencies.

Post doctoral Associate Position Description
Start date: June 2024
Duration: 18 months with the potential to renew

Gretchen Hansen is recruiting a post doctoral research associate to join a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional working on climate change impacts and adaptation related to Midwestern lakes and fisheries. We are collating data from multiple agencies and building statistical models to examine relationships between climate change fish growth and production, as well as lake thermal structure and fish thermal habitat. We are also engaging with stakeholders to identify and communicate the application of our results to building climate-smart management plans. The successful candidate will interact regularly with PIs from multiple institutions; federal, state, and tribal natural resource agency personnel; other post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduates; and local stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities will include:
Lead research on climate change impacts on freshwater fisheries (65%). This includes all aspects of the research process, including defining questions and objectives, performing data analysis and visualization, publishing manuscripts, and presenting/communicating results.

Data collation and database management (20%). Much of the work for this research involves collating data from multiple sources to use in landscape-level analyses. The successful candidate will lead data collation from state agencies, build and maintain metadata, and build and maintain workflows and data pipelines for data QA/QC and facilitate data sharing and open science.

Stakeholder engagement (10%): Work with project team and stakeholders to co-develop research questions, data products, and communication tools to support the incorporation of research results into management actions

Assist with and collaborate on other projects (5%), including grant writing, budget management, report writing, analytical support, and working with students and/or technicians to support the general mission of the group

Salary: Minimum of $58,000 annually plus benefits.
