Job Description Summary:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (BMM) of the George Washington University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics and genomics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the Department continues to have a long and successful record in training Undergraduate, Master and Graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The laboratory of Dr. Brett Shook focuses on mechanisms that regulate inflammation in skin. The goal of the successful candidate is to investigate molecular mechanisms that contribute to accelerated epidermal repair in tissue previously exposed to inflammation. This will be accomplished through the usage of genetic mouse models, human samples, pharmacological techniques and gene expression profiling, in collaboration with other researchers.

This position is primarily a temporary/training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, will analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower level research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

Working experience with mouse models is preferred, but not required.
Previous experience investigating wound healing, inflammation or epidermal cell biology is preferred, but not required.
