Post Doctoral Scholar to conduct complex scientific investigations in a foundational (basic) research laboratory in the Department of Pathology functioning as a specialist or technical expert in studying viral immunology; collaborates with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, manage and implement research projects; plans, designs, and conducts complex & advanced research; plans and executes advanced molecular biological and biochemical procedures specializing & providing technical expertise in investigating epigenetic regulation of viral infection and antiviral immunity; extracts, analyzes & evaluates experimental data; develops and implements new or revised research methods; assists PI in research & development efforts of new research projects; works closely with PI to determine and develop goals of projects; develops and establishes criteria & research standards to meet goals of research projects; plans and writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in scientific journals; attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences and workshops; actively contributes to developing, writing, editing and critiquing research grant proposals; investigates potential sources of funding and makes recommendations to principal investigators; participates in developing and establishing working relationships with current & potential sponsors of research; oversees appropriate maintenance of all laboratory equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs; participates in developing and implementing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safety Manual; monitors, oversees & ensures compliance to local, state and federal laboratory health and safety rules, regulations and guidelines.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in virology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry required; extensive experience in a progressively responsible research capacity required; demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals required; technical expertise in genetics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, immunology, and virology required.

50%: Supports and conducts complex scientific investigations in biological or health sciences in a foundational (basic) research laboratory; functions as a specialist or technical expert in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, virology, immunology, and mouse genetics; collaborates with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, manage and implement research projects; plans, designs, and conducts complex & advanced research; plans and executes advanced molecular biological and biochemical procedures specializing & providing technical expertise in using above multidisciplinary approaches to study epigenetic regulation of viral infection and antiviral immunity; extracts, analyzes, interprets and evaluates experimental data; designs, implements and coordinates procedures & models for data analysis to predict results.

 

20%: Develops and implements new or revised research methods; assists principal investigators in research & development efforts of new research projects; works closely with PI to determine and develops goals & objectives of projects; develops and establishes criteria & research standards to meet goals of research projects; serves as a consultant to other investigators particularly in molecular and cellular biology, virology, and immunology.

 

20%: Plans and writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in scientific journals; attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences and workshops; actively contributes to developing, writing, editing and critiquing all research grant proposals; investigates, identifies and evaluates potential sources of funding agencies and makes recommendations to principal investigators; participates in developing and establishing working relationships with current & potential sponsors of research.

 

10%: Manages daily operations of the laboratory; oversees and ensures appropriate maintenance of all laboratory equipment; negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs; supervises procurement of research and laboratory supplies & equipment; participates in developing and implementing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safety Manual; monitors, oversees & ensures compliance to local, state and federal laboratory health and safety rules, regulations and guidelines; assists with interviewing and selection of research staff; provides instruction and training in the execution of new and/or revised research methods.
