A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Departments of Medicine and Bioengineering at University of Pittsburgh, one of the nation's top ranked schools in biomedical research. We look for an innovative and highly motivated individual to develop advanced microscopy techniques (super-resolution microscopy, light-sheet microscopy, optical coherence microscopy and quantitative phase imaging) in conjunction with image processing methods and bioinformatics tools. We tailor these state-of-the-art tools to analyze genomic, epigenomic and protein signatures from patient-derived samples such as tissue biopsies, blood, sputum and organoid to improve cancer detection and identify the best treatment. We are looking for candidates with solid optical instrumentation skills who are also comfortable working with biological samples. The candidate must be self-motivated with a strong passion for research. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team that encompasses expertise in bioengineering, electrical engineering, cancer biology, pathology, and oncology at University of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and other top medical centers around the country.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, optics, biomedical engineering and physics. We expect the candidate to independently design and build advanced optical microscopy system, write control software to automate the instrument. The candidate is expected to have a solid understanding of the imaging principles for advanced optical microscopy techniques such as super-resolution microscopy, light-sheet microcopy, and Fourier optics. Strong programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python or C/C++) is required. Strong background in image processing, machine learning, microcontrollers and parallel computing is also highly desirable.
We offer excellent salary and benefits. Outstanding individuals with substantial relevant experience will be considered for senior level positions or have the opportunity to advance to research faculty positions in the future.
