POSITION TITLE: EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN - Department of Animal Resources

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Ensures that timely maintenance and repair of equipment is performed and documented.
• Provides equipment training to new and existing personnel on proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Facilitates oversight of annual equipment certifications.
• Works in conjunction with in-house and outside service contractors to perform in-house troubleshooting and repairs.
• Provides input into development of equipment Standard Operating Procedures along with maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Maintains equipment database to track service dates, equipment location, and repairs.
• Performs delivery duties, transport equipment and conduct animal husbandry duties as necessary.
• May be required to work weekend and holiday rotations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have a Valid CA Driver's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED). One to three years equipment maintenance experience can be substituted for a high school diploma/equivalent.
• Experience using hand and power tools required.
• Must have good verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal relation skills. Must also be customer service oriented.
• Must demonstrate competency in basic computer skills/programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and push up to 100lbs.
• Familiarity with lab animal facility equipment, basic knowledge of biosafety in a lab animal setting or some mechanical experience preferred.
• Must be willing to work on large machinery such as large equipment washing machines and large autoclaves.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to lift and handle equipment or materials up to 50 pounds, push up to 100 pounds; as well as perform repetitive motions with arms, wrists and hands. This position may also include utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) and working in an environment that contains biohazardous materials. May also include stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $23 to $25 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
