A Postdoctoral Research Scientist position is available in the group of Dr. Pratibha Dev in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Howard University. The focus of the research will be to use first principles DFT-based calculations to develop an understanding of science at the interfaces of quantum materials, such as topological materials and other two-dimensional layered crystals. The successful candidate is expected to study surface effects, quantum-size effects and emergent quantum phenomena at the interfaces of such materials. The appointment is initially for 1-year and is extendible to the 2nd year, based on availability of funds.
Fields of specialization: Experience with DFT and its extensions is required. Experience calculating relativistic effects, using time-dependent density functional theory and GWA are desirable.
Successful applicants will have a PhD. in computational/theoretical condensed matter physics and material science or related disciplines, with a proven capacity for excellent research that is reflected in a strong publication record.
