A full-time post-doctoral position is available with the Potomac Aquifer Recharge Monitoring Laboratory (PARML) and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Old Dominion University. The position will support the development and operations of PARML that is focused on monitoring advanced water treatment processes and the response of the Potomac Aquifer to recharge of native water with highly treated water. Research skills and experience must include method development, analysis of trace organic compounds by GC, GC-MS, and/or related procedures, familiarity with QA/QC procedures, and a minimum of two years of experience with day-to-day analytical measurements (instrument operation). The person in this position will also be involved in data management and contributing to the development of research plans to further understanding of advanced treatment processes on the fate of various organic and inorganic contaminants in a water reuse application and the influence of recharge waters on an aquifer’s hydrogeochemical response. Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain laboratory capability and capacity in various environmental analyses and participate in analyses.
  • Review and interpret relevant project data generated internally and by project partners
  • Review relevant literature and contribute to research plan development
  • Manage/conduct within-laboratory research efforts
  • Maintain good laboratory records
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or training: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Level and type of experience: 0 years beyond Ph.D. but two years intense analytical laboratory experience

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities: Analytical chemistry, experience with GC/MS, spectrophotometric analyses
