A postdoctoral position funded by NASA is available immediately in the laboratory of Giuseppe Intini, DDS, PhD at the University of Pittsburgh - School of Dental Medicine. The laboratory has recently identified the calvarial suture as the niche of osteoprogenitor/stem cells expressing Prx1 (Wilk et al, Stem Cell Reports, 2017), a transcription factor highly expressed during embryonic development, and the NASA sponsored research aims at studying the molecular mechanisms by which microgravity interferes with the PRX1 expressing cells and their active role in calvarial bone regeneration. Additionally, the research will aim at testing the efficacy of a novel injectable bone “super-glue” in antagonizing the effects of microgravity on PRX1 expressing cells and on calvarial bone regeneration. The Intini laboratory is part of the University of Pittsburgh - Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR) in the School of Dental Medicine and is affiliated to the Harvard Stem Cell Institute in Boston, MA. The laboratory is located in the Salk Research Pavilion, a brand new, state-of-the-art, research tower of the University of Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh - School of Dental Medicine is currently ranked 4th in funding received from the NIH/National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
