Job Description Summary:

Mental Health Services (MHS) at the Colonial Health Center serves as the primary mental health agency for GW students and the entire campus community. Our mission is to support students’ mental health and personal development by collaborating directly with students to overcome difficulties and challenges that may interfere with their academic, emotional, and personal success.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Services, the Supervising Psychologist & Assistant Director for Training & Education is responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides direct clinical services within a culturally competent framework, including individual assessment to determine treatment recommendations, brief counseling interventions, testing, group counseling and referral services.
  • Oversees, and participates in as needed, the center’s training initiatives and outreach activities.
  • Supervises the employees performing program evaluation, assessment, training functions. Manages center-wide evaluation and assessment of services as well as the training and professional development activities for postdoctoral fellows, master’s and doctoral-level graduate students, undergraduate student para-professionals, and staff.
  • Serves as member of the MHS leadership team, participating in program development, review and development of policies and procedures, and other activities affecting the efficient and effective functioning of MHS.
  • Oversees outreach services to meet the mental health needs of the University community, including academic support programs, educational workshops, personal skill development groups, consultation and training programs for faculty and staff.
  • Conducts crisis interventions and debriefings as necessary.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctorate degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of relevant experience, to include two years of supervisory experience. Licensed in Washington, D.C. or eligibility for Washington D.C. clinical licensure within six months of hire.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed in Washington, DC or be eligible for licensure within six months.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant professional experience
  • Supervised internship or equivalent, to include clinical assessment, counseling and crisis intervention, with a diverse college-age population
