Post Doctoral Associate/Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
Med-Microbiology and Molecular Genetics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (21000874)

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available to study the molecular biology of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HBV-related liver cancer in Dr. Haitao Guo’s lab in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. http://www.mmg.pitt.edu/person/haitao-guo   HBV is the causative agent for chronic hepatitis B that affects more than 300 million people worldwide without an effective cure available. Among viruses, HBV is quite unique in terms of the virus life cycle and virus-host interactions. One of our major basic research projects is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of biosynthesis and maintenance of HBV episomal DNA minichromosome (termed the covalently closed circular (ccc) DNA) and its transcriptional regulations. cccDNA is the basis for persistent HBV infection, making it an undisputed antiviral target for achieving an HBV cure. In addition, we are also investigating the molecular mechanism of HBV-induced liver cancer. The postdoc will have opportunity to select and execute projects from a broad area of HBV-related virology and cancer research by utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques, genomics and proteomics approaches, in vitro and in vivo experimental systems and clinical samples.

Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D degree and strong background in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry, experience in virology, DNA replication and repair, epigenetic transcriptional regulation, or cancer research is a plus.  Please apply through Talent Center at join.pitt.edu , requisition # 21000874.
