POST-DOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE
Diabetes-related dysfunction in cardiac physiopathology
A postdoctoral research fellow is available immediately in Dr. Priscila Sato’s laboratory (www.psatolab.org) at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. The Sato laboratory investigates the interplay between metabolic and receptor signaling that govern cardiac function, cardiovascular health, and adaptations to substrate intake (e.g. diets). Our multidisciplinary research interests span pharmacology and physiology of cardiovascular disease and islet function, addressing unmet needs of complex diseases like diabetes, heart failure with and without preserved ejection fraction, and obesity. We are also interested in linking functional cardiac outcomes to the cross-talk with non-cardiac cells like adipocytes and islet cells. We use assays that include biochemical mechanistic analysis (western blots, ELISA, qRT-PCR, etc), in vitro/ in vivo isotologue tracing, primary cell lines, etc alongside with in vivo biology including echocardiography, in vivo blood test analysis, hemodynamics, etc.
The laboratory is committed to support postdoctoral fellows in any career aspirations (academia, industry, etc).
Qualifications:
- PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent in a relevant research area is required
- Recent PhD candidates with research experience in molecular biology, muscle biology, metabolism, heart physiology, epigenetics, immunology are encouraged to apply.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in mechanistic-to-translational physiology with a keen appreciation of in vivo/ in vitro study analysis.
- Work well in a team-work as well as independently, proactively advancing the project.
- Be self motivated and organized.
