Postdoctoral Researcher in Signal Processing for Radio Frequency Inference
The Communications Engineering group lead by Professor Riku Jäntti invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position.
In this position, your task is to conduct research on model-based signal processing methods for radio frequency inference using narrowband radios and backscatter devices and participate in supervision of doctoral students and project management. Radio frequency inference uses Radio Frequency (RF) sensor networks of commercial-off-the shelf narrowband radio transceivers or cheap software defined radios to monitor the environment. Recently also backscatter devices have been utilized for the purpose. RFI systems find applications in security, indoor localization and ambient assisted living. You will contribute to the development of signal processing methods for drone and backscatter based RFI systems with the objective of detecting presence of a person, tracking his or her movement, estimating respiration rate and detecting gestures.
You will join an active research group, whose research is closely linked to industrial and academic partners worldwide. Aalto was ranked 34th in the world in the area of telecommunications engineering (ARWU2020).
You have a PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or in a related discipline with excellent results. You have high motivation for research, and you enjoy working in an international and cross-disciplinary team. You have excellent mathematical skills and very good knowledge on signal processing methods. You have good programming skills in Matlab and C. You are capable of rigorous thinking and to work independently as well as part of a team. You communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing. You have experience in publishing your results in high quality journals and international conferences. You have good organization and mentor skills as well as high responsibility in fulfilling the tasks assigned to you. Previous experiences working with embedded systems and software defined radios is considered as a merit.
Salary and contract terms
The expected starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately 3600 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The contract includes occupational health benefits and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. Preferable starting time is fall 2020. The contract period is initially for 1-2 years, with an extension possibility.
