Position Description:

An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to participate in studies related to renal microvascular function, renal hemodynamics and inflammation in different settings of renal and cardiovascular diseases. Current projects in the lab include the role of sphingosine-1-phosphate in regulating renal microvascular function and in contributing to renal microvascular dysfunction using animal kidney injury models. The laboratory uses a state-of-the-art video-microscopy technique and whole animal studies to directly assess renal microvascular function in animal models.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record with publications. Strong motivation, good communication skill and the ability to work independently is required. Prior experience in animal handling, mouse genetics, surgical techniques, and skills in cellular and molecular biology is highly desirable, but not necessary. The applicant will be trained to use in vivo and in vitro surgical skills and integrative approaches to address questions related to this area of research. Candidates with a Ph.D. M.D. or similar degree in physiology/pharmacology, immunology, or a related discipline are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates please send CV, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and a list of three references with contact information to Dr. Guan: zhengrongguan@uabmc.edu
