JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is immediately available in Dr. John Gorcsan’s Imaging Core at the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute, at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine.  Research physicians with a PhD and experience in cardiovascular diseases and advanced understanding of cardiac research studies are invited to apply.  A minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical research in topics of pulmonary hypertension and heart failure is required.  Expertise in echocardiographic data acquisition and quantitative echocardiographic image analysis is required. This includes advanced experience in ultrasound scanning, Doppler echocardiography, tissue Doppler and ultrasound system operations. Experience also required in advanced cardiac imaging techniques, including speckle tracking and three-dimensional echocardiography. Advanced expertise with echo image analysis software, such as TomTec and GE EchoPac software is required. Expectations also include, database building and database management, core lab echocardiographic analysis, statistical analysis and writing skills to clearly present results for scientific abstract presentation and manuscript publication. This is a full-time research position and does not involve patient care.

Dr. Gorcsan’s newly formed Imaging Core provides expert advanced ultrasound analyses to several well-known clinical trials.

The successful candidate will work on research studies in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians and scientists. Excellent communications skills and a willingness to learn about the multi-disciplinary aspects of ongoing research are necessary for this position. Previous experience with human subjects research including consenting of study participants is relevant for this position. Applicants with two or more first author scientific presentations and additional co-authored manuscripts will be given preference. To succeed in this position the applicant needs to be goal-oriented, self-sufficient, and able to work independently and in groups in a fast-paced research environment. A familiarity with policies and procedures of human subjects’ research, and experience with writing of research proposals are advantageous for this position.

The appointment will be initially for one year with a possibility of renewal, based on productivity.
