Position Title:
Post Doc Research Associate- Reliability/Sustainability Analysis and Optimization
Appointment Type:
Post Doc/Trainee
Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Postdoc - Applications are invited for one postdoctoral scholar position in the Departments of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University. The research objectives of these positions include one or more of the following: (1) develop surrogate modeling techniques for simulation-based uncertainty quantification and reliability analysis, (2) create formulations and solution algorithms of design optimization problems for the exploration of sustainable design options, (3) develop algorithms and frameworks for life-cycle cost (LCC) analysis, and (4) assist in validating the analysis techniques and optimization formulations and solvers on real-world product design cases. The duration of this postdoctoral scholar position is expected to be one year and may be renewable based on performance and availability of funding. The salary will be commensurate with the prior research experience of the applicant.
This position will attend the weekly research meetings, publish the findings of their research in premier journals, present their research in high-impact conferences, and facilitate close collaborations with industrial partners specialized in the design and manufacturing of industrial components. This postdoctoral scholar will also mentor at least two Ph.D. students and participate in proposal writing. Only individuals who have a strong desire to pursue an academic career are encouraged to apply for this position.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates of the postdoc position should have a recent Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Applicants with experience in (1) reliability analysis under uncertainty, (2) design optimization of industrial components, and/or (3) sustainable design are highly encouraged to apply. Prior high TRL project delivery experience is preferred. Particularly, prior research experience in one or more of the following areas are desired: - Algorithm development for uncertainty quantification and reliability analysis - Algorithm development for reliability life data analysis and Weibull analysis - Design analysis using computer simulation software such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and multi-body dynamics (MBD) - Algorithm development for design optimization - Software development using C++ programming language - Sustainability in product and system engineering (e.g., LCC analysis, life-cycle analysis, and design for remanufacturing) - Basic data-related skills (e.g., data collection, streamlining, statistical analyses / assessment / evaluation, implementation to LCC framework)
