We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s diverse student body as a Assistant Professor of Biology/Chemistry beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.

The College of Sciences at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, an R2 Carnegie Classification Hispanic-Serving Institution with an enrollment of over 32,000 students, invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor. This position will be jointly appointed in the Chemistry and Biology Departments with an expected start date of September 1, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field, postdoctoral experience, and an excellent track record in research and teaching that indicates a strong potential for attracting extramural funding.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

The new faculty member will teach a core course for the new Biochemistry and Molecular Biology MS Program, in addition to other courses in the Chemistry and Biology Departments, actively participate in externally-funded research and contribute to service activities. As a member of the UT System, faculty have access to the Texas Advanced Computing Center (https://www.tacc.utexas.edu/).

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise is preferred in the area of Computational Biology (which may include basic research in systems biology, metabolomics, computational neuroscience, bioinformatics, etc.).

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
