JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Dr. Marc Kaufman has two open positions for postdoctoral research scholars. The positions are located in the Heart and Vascular Institute of the Penn State College of Medicine. The research focus of the laboratory centers on cardiovascular control during exercise in both health and in simulated peripheral artery disease. The successful candidate will learn in vivo techniques in rodents in which cardiovascular function and thin fiber muscle afferent discharge are measured.  In addition, the successful candidate will learn in vitro electrophysiological and gene silencing techniques in the laboratory of Dr. Victor Ruiz-Velasco. The successful candidate will also learn to genotype and to manage breeding colonies of rats whose genes for either ASIC3 or myophosphorylase have been knocked out by CRISPR Cas9 technology. Both positions are funded by the NIH and offer a highly competitive salary, benefits, and an outstanding research environment. The opportunity to interact with scientists performing human studies assessing cardiovascular function is also available on a limited basis. Individuals with an interest in exercise physiology and/or neural control of the circulation are encouraged to apply.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
