Job Summary

Inclusive and transformative education is what we do. Salt Lake Community College is seeking a dynamic equity-minded practitioner to lead transformative professional development among our highly talented faculty.

People are at the center of our work and the communities we serve. We are rapidly becoming a model for inclusive and transformative education focused on strengthening the communities we serve through the success of our students.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, People & Workplace Culture and in partnership with academic administration, faculty, and faculty leadership, the Director of Faculty Development and Transformational Educational Initiatives will provide leadership, vision, and management to help us close the completion gap through equity-minded teaching and learning. The successful candidate must be an equity minded practitioner and lead by:

Actively modeling and promoting inclusive teaching and awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion, and high-impact practices in programs, curricula, and classrooms throughout the College;

Developing and executing transformative educational initiatives, scaling embedded equity minded practices throughout the College

Championing and aligning SLCC values, vision, mission and goals to be a model for inclusive and transformative education

Collaborating across the college to establish inclusive and equitable teaching practices.

This is an at will position.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Develop and implement a framework for inclusive and transformative faculty development; this includes:
Systemic development experiences appropriately targeted and aligned with the faculty experience (new faculty, early-career faculty, mid-career, late career). Provide development experiences for faculty as part of the rank advancement and tenure processes

Weave equity-mindedness and inclusion throughout all development.

Support the pedological approach learning assessment to continually improve learning
Active scholarship of teaching and learning in diverse learning environments.

Peer-to-peer opportunities to learn and share practices.

Foster an inclusive faculty culture that values diversity.

Office Leadership and Management:

Lead, manage, and supervise the Faculty Development and Transformative Educational Initiatives staff.

Oversee maintenance of a faculty development website.

Work collaboratively with the Office of Staff Development & Employee Experience to share resources, coordinate professional development college-wide, and coordinate the use of the Professional Development Center.

Coordinate faculty development events such as faculty convention, speakers, etc. to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

Transformative Educational Experiences:

Partner with academic departments, academic leaders, and other College teams to advance educational initiative efforts. Manage scaling of SLCC’s Open Educational Resources (OER) initiative.

Advance new educational initiatives through grant procurement and implementation. Support existing Ed initiatives (SLOA, ePortfolio).

In collaboration with academic affairs, Chief Diversity Officer, and human resources, oversee Diverse Faculty Fellows program, including redesign, assessment, and ongoing continuous improvement efforts.

Educational initiatives:

Manage scaling of SLCC’s Open Educational Resources (OER) initiative.

Advance new educational initiatives through grant procurement and implementation.

Scale Open Educational Resources in general education courses.

Support existing Ed initiatives (SLOA, ePortfolio).

Partner with academic departments, academic leaders, and other College teams to advance educational initiative efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

Completed Doctorate from an accredited university

Demonstrated experience with and empathy for marginalized or minority cultures, students, and faculty

Demonstrated successful experience implementing high-impact and inclusive pedagogies

Demonstrated proficiency with online instructional tools and tech-enhanced instruction with an equity lens

Demonstrated understanding of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), adult learner theory, instructional research, equity-minded and inclusive practices

Demonstrated experience in Open Educational Resources; development and management

Higher education leadership experience

Tenured faculty member

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree

Five (5) or more years demonstrated successful full-time teaching experience in higher education or equivalent

Demonstrated successful administrative, management, & budgetary experience

Demonstrated supervisory experience

Experience in faculty development in an institution of higher education

Experience with equity design principles. Demonstrated understanding of the scholarship related to educational impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion, preferably in higher education.

Demonstrated experience managing and executing large systemic development projects in a collaborative environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE:
Equity design; DEI scholarship, pedagogy, and impact

Current trends in higher education (particularly in urban community colleges)

Faculty development theory and practice with an equity lens

Inclusive faculty tenure requirements and processes

High impact and inclusive pedagogies, tech-enhanced instruction and innovative delivery methods

ePortfolio and Open Educational Resources

SKILLS:
Inclusive teaching and development

Change management/leadership

Personnel supervision, leadership and management

Budget management
Scale program development / project management

Utilizing technology and impact on faculty/teaching modalities

ABILITIES:

Teach inclusively and with equity-mindedness

Engage faculty in transformative initiatives

Apply best practices in teaching, faculty development, etc.

Provide leadership to team and successfully collaborate with colleagues across the college

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
