Full Job Description
A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available immediately at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology in the lab of Dr. Daniela Weiskopf and Dr. Alessandro Sette, who are interested in understanding human T cell reactivity against emerging infectious diseases.
Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary group of researchers with a strong sense of collaboration dedicated to the identification and characterization of T cell responses against a variety of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 or mosquito borne viruses such as zika-, dengue- and chikungunya viruses.
For more information see:
1. Targets of T Cell Responses to SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus in Humans with COVID-19 Disease and Unexposed Individuals (PMID: 32473127)
2. Selective and cross-reactive SARS-CoV-2 T cell epitopes in unexposed humans (PMID: 32753554)
3. Molecular Signatures of Dengue Virus-Specific IL-10/IFN-γ Co-producing CD4 T Cells and Their Association with Dengue Disease (PMID: 31875555)
Our research utilizes the tools of bioinformatics-based epitope predictions to identify correlates of immune responses through studying blood samples (PBMC) from individuals previously exposed to the viral infections, or who have been vaccinated against viral disease.
Methods frequently used in this research include isolating and culturing different primary cells of the immune system as well as FluoroSPOT, FACS and intracellular cytokine staining. Bioinformatics analysis experience is a plus with particular focus on RNA sequencing analysis and dimensionality reduction analyses.
LJI is an independent, non-profit research institute. LJI was recently ranked as one of the world’s top 5 immunology research institutes and was ranked #1 in a survey of postdoctoral fellows as ‘best places to work’ by The Scientist magazine.
The successful candidate should have a PhD or MD/PhD with a strong background in immunology, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are expected.
