The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a Research Associate (Postdoctoral level) to work under the supervision of Dr. William Epling.
The successful candidate will measure rates and calculate the kinetics of CO and hydrocarbon oxidation and NOx reduction over newly designed and synthesized emissions control catalysts. The work will be dominated by experiments using micro-scale and pilot-scale reactors as well as IR and chemisorption characterization techniques. Sulfur poisoning and hydrothermal degradation will also be evaluated. Therefore, duties will include reactor design, experiment design, catalyst characterization, reactor testing of the catalysts and mechanism and kinetic expression development.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field, with experience in catalyst testing, IR spectroscopy, mechanism development and kinetics is required. Experience with emissions catalysis, reactor design and fabrication and other catalyst characterization techniques is preferred. The applicant should also have a track record of mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate researchers and strong writing ability as evidenced by prior papers and grant/fellowship applications.
