Description of the Job

A postdoctoral position in bioinorganic chemistry is available for a skilled and enthusiastic candidate within the multidisciplinary Lucas Lab at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA (https://chemistry.vcu.edu/people/faculty/lucas.html). The principal research topic will be centered around the synthesis of metallopeptides and/or tunable coordination complexes that activate natural oxidants and the mechanistic characterization of their reactivity profiles.

Applications are sought from dedicated and hardworking candidates with expertise in the spectroscopic characterization of compounds and reaction pathways, including NMR, GCMS, FTIR, UV/vis, and EPR. The successful candidate will be expected to independently design, execute, and analyze experiments, to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, and to promote a collegial and rigorous laboratory environment. Periodic technical progress reports will be required, and opportunities to mentor graduate and undergraduate students will be available. The initial appointment is for one year with a review after 6 months; renewal beyond 1 year is contingent on milestones achieved.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline and prior experience with air-free synthetic procedures and handling techniques.

Candidates must have additional experience with specialized methodologies, such as X-ray crystallographic structural determination of metallocomplexes.
