Full Job Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the Vascular Mechanobiology laboratory of Dr. B. Rita Alevriadou in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University at Buffalo – The State University of New York. We have a long-standing interest in vascular endothelial signaling mechanisms and (dys)function in response to changes in the cell’s mechanochemical environment (fluid shear stress, hypoxia/reoxygenation, pressure, etc.). This NIH-funded project will focus on the role of mitochondrial calcium uptake and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species on cultured endothelial cell gene expression, protein synthesis, and cell survival vs. inflammation and apoptosis.

The Fellow will collaborate with researchers from the UB’s North Campus (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences), Downtown Campus (Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences), the Roswell Park, and the University of Texas – San Antonio. The ideal candidate will have a self-motivated interest in pursuing a research career in cardiovascular biology, and will have experience in tissue culture, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, transfection and viral transduction, siRNA transfection, qRT-PCR, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, FACS analysis, and apoptosis assays. Opportunities for mentorship and networking will be available through the Center for Research in Cardiovascular Medicine and the UB Office of Postdoctoral Scholars.
