Post-Doctoral Associates in the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) hold full-time non-tenure track positions to assist in the conduct of research and development of task relating to an externally funded program. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate, an externally-funded professional, reports to a project investigator. These positions are contingent on the availability of funding.
Salary Grade: UC

The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) at Mississippi State University is an interdisciplinary center comprised of research, engineering design & development, and technology transfer teams for industry and government partners. Our overall effort is focused on developing superior computational, engineering, manufacturing, design, and information technologies relevant to Mississippi and regional industries. This is accomplished by bringing together world-class technologists and technologies to solve complex problems.
Area of Specialization:
Finite element analysis; Constitutive modeling, Multiscale modeling; Internal state variable theory; Integrated computational materials engineering, Mechanics of metals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and apply state-of-the-art software to support High-Computational-Effort Modeling and Simulation. Research and develop software engineering for the design and development of multiscale constitutive modeling, and finite element analysis. Study the mechanical behavior of various materials, quantify structure-property relations and design experimentation and process-structure-property-performance quantification.
Ability to work independently, publish in archival journals, write research proposals, and present in a public forum.
A PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace/Civil Engineering or related field. Training and hands-on experience in software development, Abaqus user material model coding, multiscale constitutive modeling, and finite element analysis of material systems.
Experience in finite element analysis, multiscale modeling, non-linear solid mechanics, software development, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, internal state variables, additive manufacturing, and plasticity. US Citizen, or Legal Permanent Resident Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skills associated with a PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace/Civil Engineering or related field. Experience with one or more programming language (e.g. C++, Python, Fortran) and knowledge of software packages such as LS-Dyna, Abaqus, python, and MATLAB.
