Job Summary

Instruct students in health information technology or health services management courses, which are taught entirely online. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field and teach courses in accordance with the course syllabus, department guidelines and policies, and College requirements. Assist with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of curriculum. As qualified and assigned, will teach in the certificate programs, associate degree program (AAS), and the program offering a bachelor’s degree in health services management (BAS in HSM).

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Care Administration or Health Informatics

Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities within health information technology

Experience with using a learning management system (LMS)

Experience in teaching medical coding courses

Three year’s work experience in a health information management field

Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Office software usage

Strong organization, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

Must possess a valid driver license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree

Certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Certified in medical coding through AHIMA as a CCS or CCS-P

Teaching experience in a college setting

Essential Functions

Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations as published in the Employee and Faculty Handbook

Teach classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour (LEH) requirement commensurate with the program curriculum

Overload is paid as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations as published in the Employee and Faculty Handbook

Teach year-round classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour (LEH) requirement commensurate with the program curriculum

Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program

Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum

Instruction must be based on clearly written course syllabi describing entry-level competencies, course objectives, and evaluation methods

Assist the department chair to accomplish programmatic duties and outcomes

Assist with the education-related counseling and program advising of students

Stay current with trends and innovations in the field

Maintain academic and programmatic records as required by the College and accreditation and approval agencies

Maintain a well-managed learning environment regardless of instructional location or modality

Communicate learning objectives to students

Identify students who are at risk for course failure and employ early interventions to promote student success

Develop appropriate high-quality assessments to measure attainment of objectives

Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing methodologies, techniques, and delivery techniques

Provide access to students through adherence to posted office hours and effective use of Canvas and electronic communication

Serve on departmental, division and college-wide committees as requested

Participate in student recruitment and advising

Participate in graduation and other required official college functions

Submit required college reports, forms, grade reports, and other documentation in a timely manner

Demonstrate responsibility to the teaching discipline and to the profession by participating in professional development activities

Contribute to the College and to the community through self-selected service activities

Maintain AHIMA membership and complete required CEU hours to maintain credential

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

Use of manual dexterity

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

The person in this position frequently communicates with students; must be able to exchange accurate information

The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive from office to other locations on and off campus

Office and classroom setting

Some travel is required

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$55,767 per year

Max Salary

$68,657 per year

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
