Position Summary:

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is seeking candidates for post doctoral fellow positions to support the areas of oceanography and related areas of study to support the research and academic missions of the College. This will include working on one or more funded projects in these research areas under the guidance of senior faculty members. **This is a pool position; successful acceptance into the pool does not guarantee an offer nor review of applicant materials.**

Duties:

Duties will vary according to project. Work may be done in a laboratory or in the field. Work may be part- or full-time. Works under administrative supervision. Solves complex research questions/problems using analytical skills. Creates reports for use in publications. Combines own work with work of other research professionals and faculty to produce complete projects. May design processes or tools for gathering information. May coordinate the work of other research professionals or research technicians. May develop, with guidance, models for use by other research professionals or faculty members. May use fiscal/statistical knowledge to develop reports.

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist for various research opportunities. The position is based at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The work will require field and laboratory studies. This is a full-time, 1.5-2 year appointment with the possibility of extension depending upon performance and funding availability. Annual salary is negotiable based on experience.

Requirements

Salary Information:

Salary varies based on position and is commensurate with experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

General knowledge of the relevant research related to the unit and sufficient relevant experience to contribute significantly to a specific project. Experience in the use of computers and other appropriate equipment to conduct the research proposed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

A PhD in oceanography or related field is required. Preferred qualifications include sea ice field experience, knowledge of trace metal techniques, and familiarity with the Arctic marine system.
