We have 4800 students across 25 programs offering certificates, diplomas, and degrees. The Role: Reporting to the Dean, Pilon School of Business, the incumbent will be responsible for providing academic leadership to faculty, staff and students in the Business programs, in the areas of planning and administration of resources, review and development of curriculum and programs, development of strong relationships with industry as well as internal partners and stakeholders, support of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, collaboration with other Faculties and internal stakeholders on inter-professional curriculum and student projects, providing support for faculty with research initiatives, and seeking ways to integrate applied research into the curriculum, and development of quality non-traditional funding opportunities.

Key Priorities for the Associate Dean include:

  • Supporting and enabling the future vision, direction and evolution of the Pilon School of Business, and specifically how it will continue to differentiate and elevate itself as a leader in business education in Canada as well as internationally;

  • Providing sound academic leadership and direction to the faculty and staff in the Faculty in order to ensure a strong team environment and culture that fosters creativity, innovation, excellence, continuous improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration;

  • Maintaining a high level of performance within his/her program cluster (Marketing and Advertising) through effective recruitment, selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of full and part-time faculty and staff;

  • Ensuring that program outcomes are achieved through effective leadership of quickly changing curriculum and engaging teaching and learning practices;

  • Contributing to the development of a strong identity and positive reputation by championing new program development, program renewal, partnerships, excellence in teaching and learning, and applied research within his/her program cluster that is consistent with, and supports, Sheridan’s vision and strategic directions.

  • Forging positive relationships, collaboration and communication with key internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, service leaders, students, the business community and other key individuals/organizations with the goal of building and increasing development opportunities and resources on behalf of the Faculty.

  • Striving to ensure sound human resource leadership, management, capacity building and development within the faculty.

  • Facilitating the development of a sense of accountability and commitment to shared responsibility among the faculty and staff of the programs, in particular with regard to the development and administration of the School budget, and the effective and efficient allocation of resources to address both immediate operational requirements and longer term priorities of the programs;

  • Developing program budgets and enrollment plans in conjunction with the Dean, Operations Manager, and Faculty leadership team, and managing both to ensure the provision of appropriate facilities and resources;

  • Implementing a flexible, responsive Faculty academic plan a part of the academic planning process of the college.


The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field or in education (PhD or equivalent terminal degree preferred) and a minimum of seven years’ experience working in a post-secondary educational environment, and/or significant management/leadership experience in the business sector, preferably in marketing and/or advertising.

  • Post-secondary teaching experience with knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum design, program development, and applied research.

  • With an understanding of cultural diversity and employment equity, the successful candidate will cultivate and contribute to a successful team environment by applying excellence in leadership, team building, effective communication, exceptional interpersonal and management skills.

  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving, critical thinking and project management skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential.

  • Self-directed and committed to a team model of operations management and decision-making.

  • Commitment to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and to a student-centred environment is a must.
