Job Summary

The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah seeks a highly motivated research associate to join its staff. This individual will work both independently and assist researchers in the field of precision medicine, oncology, clinical genetics and health equity with advanced analytics to transform, analyze, and interpret healthcare data from multiple environments across the nation and evaluate or create new services. This position will work closely with the VA Informatics and Computing Infrastructure resource center at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.


• Lead and co-Lead research in health services research, epidemiology, genomics and precision medicine.
• Utilize critical thinking to manage studies by planning, assisting with study design, developing statements of work and analysis plans, monitoring progress, evaluating data quality, analyzing data, and validating results.
• Lead research activities and collaborate with investigators throughout entire research process, from grant applications to design through results interpretation and manuscript preparation.
• Direct collaborative projects within the University of Utah and other centers and partner institutions.
• Ability to write research proposals, grants, and manuscripts; direct preparation of manuscripts and presentation materials
• Collaborate with study and analytics team to test hypothesis, answer key questions, summarize data, and create reports
• Current with external factors that might influence research including legal and regulatory issues, informatics standards, data science developments and peer review.
• Promote program to internal and external teams including dissemination of results through scholarly writing and conferences.
• Ability to work independently and as a team player, to work on multiple projects under pressure and with tight timelines and maintain the attention to detail quality.
• Other research and operational functions as requested

Minimum Qualifications



Master’s degree or PhD in Nursing and Health Policy or Public Health or relevant education and/or equivalent training in health service research, epidemiology, informatics, or a related field highly preferred.

Post-graduate or post-doctoral training or relevant real-world experience in conducting health service research with experience in biostatistics, epidemiology or precision medicine is preferred.
