Postdoctoral Fellow to study the structural and dynamic properties of integral membrane proteins in the laboratory of Prof. Gary A. Lorigan in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Miami University in Ohio; work independently or as part of a team to design, implement, and disseminate research aligned with the program’s research agenda; participate in the development and submission of proposals for grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements; serve as first author on reports and publications.
The postdoctoral position is funded through a NIH MIRA R35 grant. Miami University is home to the Ohio Advanced EPR Lab (http://epr.miamioh.edu). Two pulsed EPR spectrometers (X-band/Q-band) for DEER and ESEEM experiments, two CW-EPR spectrometers, and a 500 MHz solid-state NMR instrument are available for this project.
Doctorate in Chemistry/Biochemistry or related fields is required by date of appointment; extensive coursework or training in relevant research methodology; demonstrated research and evaluation design skills, including ability to design and lead qualitative or quantitative projects; extensive skill and professional research competence in a broad range of data collection, analysis and project management strategies; alignment of substantive research interests with programmatic priorities; ability to integrate findings from research literature and from quantitative or qualitative data analyses to develop comprehensive research and evaluation reports; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for a variety of audiences; demonstrated ability to work independently and with colleagues to complete projects by deadlines, often handling multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
Experience in two of the following areas is desirable: molecular biology and biochemistry of membrane proteins, protein purification, and EPR spectroscopy.
