Job Description:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Som Mukhopadhyay at The University of Texas at Austin to study gene-environment interactions in neurodegenerative diseases. The project specifically focuses on understanding how organisms regulate levels of essential metals in the brain, and how defects in these regulatory processes induce Parkinson’s disease. Job Details:

General Notes

This position is located on The University of Texas at Austin main campus. Requires working flexible hours that may include weekends, evenings or early morning.


  • Initiate, plan, execute and evaluate experiments to achieve specific objectives in research projects.

  • Compile and analyze data, including statistical analyses for assessment of relevance and significance.

  • Read and write manuscripts/review articles, compile figures and tables using the data obtained for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Present research data and findings in public and private forums (seminars/laboratory meetings).

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. earned within the last three years in a related field (Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Biological Sciences etc.). Productive, self -driven and collaborative scholar with a strong background in Neuroscience or related field with demonstrated expertise performing complex laboratory experiments. Strong publication track record.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in mechanistic neuroscience and molecular biology. Experience working with mice and rats is a plus.

Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications
